报告摘要:One-dimensional conjugated organic polymers are important optoelectronic materials with tunable properties and myriads of applications. Two-dimensional (2D) inorganic materials, such as graphene, display a spectrum of unprecedented properties that fundamentally impact the solid state physics. It would thus be intriguing to be able to combine the tunability of an organic polymer and 2D electron confinement in a single material – a 2D π-conjugated polymer.[1] In this presentation I will summarize our recent progress in synthesis of such structures as atomically thin layers on metallic surface,[2] and as bulk layered structures (2D Covalent Organic Frameworks),[3] via dynamic solution polymerization and solid state polymerization. The lecture will highlight examples of new dynamic polymerization approaches and new, open shell building blocks, aimed at improving the electron delocalization through the 2D networks.

报告人简介

Professor Dmitrii (Dima) F. Perepichka is Sir William C. MacDonald Chair in Chemistry and Head of the Department of Chemistry at McGill University.

He studied at Donetsk State University in Ukraine and received PhD in chemistry from the Institute of National Academy of Science of Ukraine in 1999. This was followed by post-doctoral trainings at Durham University, UK with Martin Bryce (1999-2001) and at UCLA with Fred Wudl (2001-2002). After his first independent appointment at INRS-Energy, Materials and Telecommunications in Varennes, Canada (2003), he moved to McGill University in 2005, where he was tenured in 2010 and promoted to Full Professor in 2014.

The research of his group combines tools of physical organic chemistry and surface science to design organic electronic materials, to study their structure-properties relationships and to exploit their applications in molecular and thin film devices. This work has defining contributions in low-gap donor-acceptor dyads, thiophene-based conjugated materials, luminescent highly-mobility organic semiconductors, on-surface self-assembly and reactivity of semiconducting molecules and two-dimensional conjugated polymers. The results of his research are documented in ~140 peer-reviewed journal papers and over a dozen books and book chapters, which collected >8000 citations; h-index 47 (Google Scholar).

His numerous distinctions include: Young Scientist Research Fellowship Award (NASU, Ukraine, 1998), Nouveaux Professeur-Chercheur Stratégique (FQRNT, Quebec, 2003), DuPont Young Professor (DuPont, USA, 2006), NSERC Accelerator Grant (2008), Feinberg Foundation Visiting Faculty Fellow (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, 2009), Tomlinson Science Award (McGill, 2012), Award for Research Excellence in Materials Chemistry (Canadian Society of Chemistry, 2015), Fulbright Visiting Chair (Fulbright Canada/California Nanosystems Institute, 2016), Sir William C. MacDonald Chair in Chemistry (McGill, 2017-2024), Peng Chen Scholar Award (at PKU Shenzhen, 2018), among others.
